The Disciple-Making Parent Conference (with Chap Bettis)
Many children, who grow up attending church, raised by Christian parents, are walking away from the Christian when they begin college, but what if the problem began long before their college years? We believe the problem actually starts when good, well-meaning Christian parents neglect to disciple their children. The Disciple-Making Parent Conference will be an equipping time for parents. But what does Christian discipleship at home look like? What does the Bible say about it? Our keynote speaker, Chap Bettis, will challenge and encourage us with that information as he emphasizes the importance of parental discipleship, which gives children a firm foundation as they grow. Chap is the author of the book, The Disciple-Making Parent. Chap grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. Although he believed the gospel at a young age, he struggled with doubt throughout his youth. Later, as a student at Brown University, his involvement in a Christian campus group was instrumental in finally quieting those doubts. He went on to do a degree at Columbia International University and plant a church in New England. Chap and his wife, Sharon still live in New England with their four children. As his own children grew, the Lord impressed upon his heart a desire to train parents to disciple their children. Chap and Sharon, along with some like-minded friends, began to pray about leading a ministry of preparation and education for parents. After twenty-five years of pastoral ministry and parenting, Chap employs his considerable knowledge and experience primarily through his ministry, The Apollos Project.
